Rock and Pop

Launching in November 2019, we designed the South Glos Rock & Pop School to cater for both established musicians studying contemporary music and beginners wanting to play in a rock/pop band. As part of this exciting new venture we are proud to partner with Rock School and BIMM Bristol.

At the heart of this new programme is an after-school programme for students to form bands and learn to write songs as well as the opportunity to gig at various venues and events during the year.

Rock & Pop School – Yate

The South Glos Rock & Pop School is open to all secondary school students who have learnt a rock/pop instrument to a Rock School (RSL) grade 1 standard (no exams need to have been taken). Instruments covered include guitar, bass guitar, drums, keyboard and vocals as well as any other electric instrument you may play.

Professional musicians will tutor pupils as a group, with pupils formed into bands according to their individual levels. Each band will receive regular advice and tuition from a rotation of tutors to cover all aspects of band performance, as well as some of the band rehearsal time being pupil led. There will also be professional ‘Bands in Residence’ running their own open rehearsals, so pupils will have an opportunity to get a real insight into what skills are required to be a professional musician.

Membership of the Rock & Pop School will cost £76 per term (Autumn, Spring or Summer) and includes ten sessions each term. There are two sessions:  Session one (grade/level 1+) runs 16:30-18:00 & session two (more advanced) runs 18:00-19:30.

We also provide a PA system, drum kit and all other equipment required to run a band rehearsal.
