Music Therapy

Boy Playing Tambourine at NurseryIn partnership with North Somerset Music Service, we are delighted to be able to offer Music Therapy to all schools in South Gloucestershire.  We can work with children in both mainstream and special schools, both in primary and secondary age groups.

Music therapists use music as an alternative way to communicate and make connections with young people.  Therapy is usually offered on a 1:1 basis for children who struggle cognitively, or with their mental or physical health.

What does music therapy ‘look like’?

Sessions usually take place weekly, in school and last between 20 and 40 minutes with the child.  The therapist will then make time for note-taking and reflections.

Sessions would typically happen in a room with a range of handheld and larger percussion instruments as well as a piano.

There would be an initial assessment session, to identify the individual needs of the child.

What does it cost?

Initial assessment package: £225.00

This will include:

  • 30 minute referral meeting by phone with the referrer
  • 60 minute face-to-face meetins with relevant adults.  This might include parent/carer, support worker, SENDCo, key worker, class teacher

  • One further face-to-face meeting the following week
  • Assessment report which will propose the number of therapy sessions and therapeutic goals.
